John Nilsson

Stockholm, Financial Controller

John is our Financial Controller, based in Stockholm. He is responsible for Creandum's financial operations across the various countries where we are active.

I grew up in Stockholm where one of my first real jobs, as 17 years old, was as a runner at a night club. I worked behind the bar before I was legally allowed to order from it. The job was stressful but taught me early on that teamwork and grit often pays out.

After high school, I joined the Swedish military where I did my basic training and later squad leader training. As expected, it was tough but when you got to know the people around you and understood that no individual is stronger than the group, everything changed.

I have always been analytical and really liked working with numbers, this made me start studying at Umeå University where I later received my Master of Science in Business and Economics. During my last year at university, I received an intro job at KPMG, assisting with auditing SME companies. It was my first introduction to the finance world, and I quickly felt I had found something I really enjoyed. After finishing my master’s degree, I moved back to Stockholm where I worked in Corporate Audit for a year and later worked as a Finance consultant for two years at KPMG. In the role as a finance consultant, I was often sent out independently to take on client engagements, the expectations were high and you always wanted to exceed these. This required me to take responsibility early on and to learn fast.

After two years as a consultant, I missed being part of a real team where you could follow the development long term, around this time I found the opportunity at Creandum. I learn new things all the time and my development has skyrocketed since my start at the firm. Having the benefit of being able to work with people that impress me every day with their knowledge and experience is truly inspiring.

Ben, John, and George

In my free time I really like running and spending time with friends. I completed my first marathon and the running bug has stuck, you will definitely see me in more races to come. During the summer you will find me spending time with family in the south of Sweden, or with friends traveling through Europe.
